Meet Your Hosts

Ted and Mara Chase purchased Summit Mountain Lodge in 2013 after falling in love with the area years earlier and wanting to make it home. Their goal is to provide guests with an authentic Montana experience that showcases the natural beauty of Glacier National Park.

Ted is a professional wildlife photographer and third-generation Montanan with over 20 years of experience capturing the region’s stunning landscapes and wildlife. While he grew up in the town of Cascade, both his father and grandfather are from East Glacier. Ted’s stunning photography adorns the walls of the steakhouse, giving guests a glimpse of the natural wonders that await in the surrounding wilderness.

Mara is originally from Guatemala and brings an international perspective to the lodge’s warm hospitality. Together, they share a passion for outdoor activities, including fly-fishing and rafting the nearby rivers, and are dedicated to creating memorable experiences for their guests.

A Historic Connection

Summit Mountain Steakhouse is housed in an iconic Great Northern train station built in 1906. Originally located within Glacier National Park, the building was remodeled as a Swiss chalet in 1928 and moved to its current location on Highway 2 outside the Park in the 1980s. This historic building provides a tangible connection to the region’s rich heritage and the early days of tourism in Glacier National Park.
