Summit Mountain Lodge is committed to making your Glacier National Park experience exceptional. Below you’ll find answers to our most commonly asked questions to help you plan your stay with us.
Booking & Reservations
What is your cancellation policy?
A $50 cancellation fee applies to all double cabins (Grinnell, Huckleberry, Rising Wolf, Running Rabbit, Sinopah) and single cabins (Lone Walker), while a $100 cancellation fee applies to our family cabins (Grizzly, Montana, and Three Bears). Reservation changes incur a $15 charge. Refunds are processed within 5-7 business days if warranted. No refund is given for cancellations received after 3pm, 20 days prior to the reservation date. A no-show on your scheduled arrival date will be considered a cancellation of your entire stay.
What are your check-in and check-out times?
Check-in time is from 3:00pm until 9:00pm. Please let us know if you’ll be arriving late so we can accommodate your plans. Check-out time is 11:00am. Late check-outs may incur a fee unless arranged in advance.
Can I check in on Mondays when the restaurant is closed?
Yes, but occasionally we may leave check-in instructions on the restaurant door if we need to leave the property during this time.
Do I need a credit card to stay?
Yes, we require a credit card upon arrival as a security deposit. It will only be charged if necessary for extra cleaning or damages.
Do you offer discounts on cabin rentals?
Each spring we offer an early bird discount, but it’s only for double cabins and can’t be used with multiple cabins or with any third-party booking agents (Booking.com, Expedia, etc.).
Property Information & Amenities
Where is Summit Mountain Lodge located?
We’re located at US-2, Mile marker 197 on Marias Pass on the East side of Glacier National Park, approximately 47 minutes east of West Glacier and 47 minutes south of Many Glacier. Our address is 16900 Hwy 2, West Marias Pass, East Glacier Park, MT 59434.
How big is your lodge and resort?
Our 32-acre property contains 9 cabins for rent, a full steakhouse with a private events room, and beautifully maintained grounds with stunning mountain views.
Is there internet on the property?
Yes, we offer satellite internet in the lodge, though not in the cabins. Please note it’s a bit slower than you might be used to, and streaming is not allowed due to bandwidth limitations.
Do you offer a free continental breakfast?
Yes, all cabin guests enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast from 7:00am to 9:00am, featuring yogurt, bagels, cereals, oatmeal, fruit, juice, and coffee. Early season cabin guests (May 10th-June 10th) and after September 14th do not receive continental breakfast, so please plan accordingly.
Are there laundry facilities?
Yes, we offer coin-operated machines on the property, and we sell detergent for your convenience.
Is there housekeeping service?
Yes, though limited. As an eco-friendly property, we change bathroom linens every 3 days and bed linens every 5 days unless requested more frequently.
Are there TVs in the cabins?
Four of our cabins are equipped with Roku-enabled TVs. Please specify if this amenity is important to you when booking.
Can cabin guests drink the water on the property?
Absolutely! Our water is mountain fresh and better than anything you’ll taste elsewhere. To support our environmental efforts, please don’t bring plastic water bottles with you.
Does Summit Mountain recycle?
Yes, we do what we can to recycle, though it presents some challenges in our remote mountain location.

How far are you from “Going to the Sun Road”?
We’re approximately 47 miles from the west entrance of Glacier and 54 miles from the east entrance in St. Mary.

Yes, there’s a convenience store about 6 miles away. Larger grocery options can be found in East Glacier Village and Browning.

What are the hours of your restaurant?
Our steakhouse operates from 5:00pm to 9:00pm six days a week (closed Mondays) until September, when hours may vary. We typically open around June 12th and close the third weekend of September, weather dependent. The restaurant is closed on Mondays.

Yes, we can accommodate gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options. Please inform us of any dietary restrictions when making your reservation.

Yes, the closest options are about 6 miles in either direction, with additional choices in East Glacier Village, approximately 10 miles away.
Outdoor Activities & Safety
Do you rent bear spray?
Yes, bear spray rentals are available for $20 per bottle for your entire stay.
Do we need bear spray?
We recommend carrying bear spray while hiking in the area. While chances are you won’t need to use it, it’s better to be prepared when exploring wilderness areas.
Can we bring bear spray to Canada?
Yes, bear spray is permitted in Canada, but human mace is not allowed.
Are we allowed to grill or BBQ around the cabins?
No, for safety reasons and to avoid attracting wildlife, we don’t allow grilling or BBQs around the cabins. Bears frequently visit the property.

No, smoking and vaping are not permitted anywhere on the property.

We do not allow pets in our cabins or on the property.
Do you allow camping or RVs on your property?
No, we don’t allow camping or RVs on the property, but there is a campground very close by with proper camping facilities.

Weddings & Events
How do I book an event or wedding?
Send us an email at [email protected] to discuss availability and select a date. We’ll send you a contract and work one-on-one with you to choose the right wedding package for your needs.
How many wedding guests can you accommodate?
Our outdoor pavilion can accommodate up to 100 guests comfortably, while our private events space above the restaurant is perfect for intimate gatherings of up to 25 people.
How many people can you accommodate in the cabins?
We can house up to 47-48 overnight guests in our nine cabins.
Can I choose my own food caterer?
No, due to health regulations, we don’t allow outside caterers. Our in-house catering can customize menus to meet your needs.
Can I provide my own alcohol or bring alcohol onto the property?
No, due to our liquor license, outside alcohol cannot be brought onto the property. Summit Mountain caters all alcohol, with various package options available.
What options do I have for alcohol choices?
We can order virtually any type of alcohol from our distributors with sufficient notice. We prefer to serve draft beer to maintain our eco-friendly practices and minimize bottles and cans.
How late can our events last?
Events typically run for 5 hours, with the option to purchase additional time if desired.
Can I choose a wedding coordinator to come and help?
We help coordinate your event while you’re here, but we ask that you designate someone (other than the bride) to coordinate with us during the event.
Do you know of any wedding photographers?
We can provide a list of recommended photographers in the area.
When can we start setting up for our wedding event?
You may decorate the day before at an agreed-upon time. Any setup needed prior to that requires special arrangements.
What time is check-in and check-out for the cabin rentals?
Check-in is at 3:00pm and check-out is at 11:00am. We may have some flexibility depending on the event.
Do you offer a wedding brunch or rehearsal dinners?
Yes, we can arrange both wedding brunches and rehearsal dinners for your special day.
Do you know of any caterers to make our cake or special desserts?
We have recommendations available in our wedding brochure.
What happens if the weather gets bad during my event?
Our pavilion is enclosed with walls, so weather shouldn’t be an issue. We also have portable heaters available.
How long can the party go?
You and your guests have the venue for 5 hours with the venue package. You’re welcome to continue your reception until midnight, but there would be an hourly rate for time beyond the 5-hour allotment.
